Conference highlights role of clusters in targeting global markets

Australian and international thought leaders in cluster development gathered at UTS Sydney on April 16 and 17 to demonstrate how clusters can help open pipelines into the global economy for our regions.

The second annual Australasian Cluster Conference & Workshops, an initiative of TCI Network Oceania in collaboration with RDA Brisbane, attracted around 60 economic and regional development professionals, cluster managers, TCI members and RDAs.

RDA welcomes new members

RDA Brisbane has welcomed three new Committee members:  Jeff Lassen, Laura Barnes and Margo Couldrey.  

Jeff is the Chief Operating Officer at Synergies Economic Consulting, and is an experienced economist. Laura has almost 20 years' experience in workforce planning and development, and labour market/employment programs and policy. Margo's expertise is in vocational education and training policy and practice, including strategies to lift workforce productivity and participation, and investment in skills.  READ MORE >>.

NRSF Round Two delayed

National Stronger Regions Fund (NSRF) Round Two - originally scheduled to start on May 1 - has been delayed to ensure that all applicants are notified of the outcome of Round One before Round Two opens. Round One is expected to be announced sometime during May.
 
NSRF is an Australian Government competitive grants program which will provide $1 billion of infrastructure funding for regional communities over five years. The new Round Two opening date will be posted on the RDA Brisbane website here as soon as it is known.

Lord Mayor's Business Forum May 4

The next Lord Mayor's Business Forum is Monday May 4, 7.00pm for 7.15pm to 9.15pm at the Mt Gravatt Bowls Club. Successful local business entrepreneurs will provide insights from their own experiences and offer practical tips to help your business grow. Bring your questions to ask the Lord Mayor and guest speakers. Click here for more info or to register.

NBN info sessions on May 13 at Banyo

With parts of Nundah and Northgate switching over to the National Broadband Network from June 12 onwards, NBN Co will hold free public information sessions on May 13 to help residents understand what actions they need to take before their switchover date.
 
The venue is the Banyo Library Meeting Room 2 (upstairs) at 284 St Vincents Road, Banyo. The session times are:
  • 10.30am - 11.30am: Presentation and Q&A
  • 12.30pm - 1.30pm: Presentation and Q&A
  • 2.00pm - 3.30pm: Q&A only - stop by with questions
  • 4.00pm - 5.00pm: Presentation and Q&Q
No RSVP is necessary. 

Work for the Dole Host Forum June 5

Not-for-profit organisations, charities and government agencies are invited to a forum in Brisbane on June 5 about becoming a Work for the Dole Host.

Work for the Dole is a key component of jobactive – the Australian Government's new employment services - which will be rolled out nationally to help job seekers to prepare for the work environment by participating in activities that are of local benefit.

3D printing now available in Brisbane

Specialist printing is now more accessible to Brisbane’s business community following the opening of Creat3d Brisbane, a 3D printer hub within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) office, Spring Hill.
 
The new hub allows Brisbane businesses to trial this emerging technology, test ideas and further explore the benefits of 3D printing.  READ MORE>>
